Most Exclusive Physical Release
- Black Metal Daily
“I quite enjoyed this, almost sounds like a combination between early Alcest and Enslaved with a touch more black metal. The raw sound behind everything adds so much to it and really helps emphasise the overall feel. A nice mix for me, but not for the faint-hearted.” 8/10
- DPRP (Netherlands)
“I am very proud to feature the recently released stratospheric EP from US one man band, Starer. Infused with an orchestral backing to the surging post-black guitars that simultaneously adds a melancholy and super-charged energy to these three cinematic tracks.”
- Transmissions from the Dark (UK)
“The new Starer is an amazing album... That underlying abrasion is washed in epic levels of synth and atmosphere making this a rather "adventurous" sonic excursion. Its really a must for anyone into atmo BM.“
- The Avant Void (UK)
“Someone told me it sounds "as if The Verve went black metal" and they weren't far off. It's a rare thing to say these days but nobody else out there sounds exactly like Starer - grab a copy of this while you can. A very powerful release.” 8/10
- Black Metal Daily (Australia)
“Starer brings you an epic form of symphonic black metal that harkens to the greats of the 90's second wave.”
- Order ov the Black Arts
“Overall, this was an extremely enjoyable little EP that will definitely be on heavy rotation at my place.” 9/10
- Dom Album Reviews
“Starer’s track is a big eye-opener, one that includes sweeping cinematic synths and bits of darting electronica to go along with a moving wall of riffing abrasion, flickering guitars, prominent bass lines, and hair-on-fire vocal extremity. The song’s symphonic bombast will also shake you like a rag doll, in addition to transporting you into a dream of ecstasy and pain. Completely breathtaking." (This Wretched Earth review)
- No Clean Singing
“Anyone who is a fan of atmospheric black metal should check out this new EP by Starer, because the quality of the compositions and the intense emotional joyride on each track is rather impressive. Listeners will discover that once you start listening to this EP, you really do not wish to tear yourself away until the very end. I have always felt that when it comes to atmospheric black, artists should never settle for subpar sounding arrangements. So many musicians fail to recognize this and end up writing forgettable material. I believe that with each new release Starer continues to explore the thresholds of extreme musical creativity, and the dedication to writing dynamic sounding compositions really makes each new release worth checking out.”
- Rock & Metal Temple
"postblackwave gothic luminosity" (Circle ov the Black Arts Vol. 1 review)
- Order ov the Black Arts
"The darkness continues with the excellent Starer and the atmosphere of Five Minutes Before Dawn." (This Wretched Earth review)
- The Coroner's Report
“Yes, this release only features three tracks, there is still plenty to take away from the immense sounding landscapes and captivating atmosphere…”
- Metal 1on1 (UK)
"Starer’s track, “The Flickering,” is a breath taking piece of atmospheric black metal music highly worth checking out along with the band’s previous releases." (The Language of Thunder review)
- Rock and Metal Temple
“On this recording Starer takes the mid 90's era of symphonic black metal and mixes it with a more modern and atmospheric style of post black metal to create a sound of his own.“ 8/10

US Black Metal. Some fantastic ideas here for this debut! Having said that, unfortunately the vocals do not come out loud & clear which is a shame. But the music is great & multilayered & requires a few listens to fully absorb. Oh and the riffs are out of this world! Love the cover too :) Recommended! bmurator

US Black Metal. This is a great album! If you heard their previous work, Castaka, then you will know that their music is of a very high standard. Well... This is even better! Highly recommended! bmurator
